Hydrosols, also known as floral waters, flower waters or distillates are products from steam distilling plant materials. Hydrosols are like essential oils but in far less of a concentration. When a distiller brews plant material with water in a large cooker the steam fills the pot and, as it rises, it causes the glands of the plants to burst and release the oils and essence of the plant into the steam. The oil rises through a condenser and collects in a separate vessel. This is what we know as an essential oil, but what about all that fragrant water that was steamed with the original plant material? That is our hydrosol or floral water.
Therapeutic and Energetic Uses of Lavender Hydrosol:
- Regenerative effects on damaged or fragile skin.
- Reduces all types of skin irritation and inflammation
- Safe to spray on your pet’s fur for hotspots and other inflammation
- Cooling
- Analgesic
- Uplifting
- Cooling to anger
- Emotionally balancing
- Storage: When not in use, store in a cool dark place. A refrigerator is great!
Your furry friend can tolerate these because a hydrosol contains much lower levels of plant extract and doesn’t have such a strong smell. You can spritz your pets or their bed with a hydrosol to calm them, to help prevent flea and tick infestations or clean their ears. And spritz the room they are in, although make sure it’s ventilated and you don’t overdo the spraying. Some companies add essential oils to water and call it a hydrosol. This is not good for your cat or dog.
My organic lavender hydrosol is 100% pure and safe for your pets.
